(Example) Initiatives in marine products

Aeon is constantly thinking about and implementing measures to shift from endangered marine products to sustainable marine products in the future.

Sustainable product sales

● Active sales of sustainable marine products such as “MSC certification” and “ASC certification”

? In Aeon began selling “MSC certified” natural fish products that are environmentally friendly and resource sustainable.

? Furthermore, in March 2014, we began selling “ASC certified” products for marine products produced by responsible aquaculture.

● Enhanced handling of complete aquaculture

? In June 2015, a fully-cultured tuna that does not depend on natural tuna resources Topvalu Gurinai Sales of “Amami Umale Ikumoto Tuna” started.

? We will take care to minimize the environmental impact of complete aquaculture. As part of this, we will encourage stakeholders to create standards for categories that do not have sustainable standards such as ASC.

Elimination of illegal transactions

● Comply with international treaties such as the Washington Convention

-Regarding the European eel, which is trade-restricted as an endangered species under the Washington Convention, the handling has been suspended because there is no way to secure the regulations.

? In consideration of regulations restricting the export of eel fry in each country, we refrain from procuring domestically produced different types of eel.

-Regarding the tuna immature fish, we will make appropriate procurement based on the decision of the Regional Fisheries Management Organization (RFMO), taking into consideration the framework to be determined in the future.

Establish traceability

● Initiatives to strengthen resource management in Indonesia

? Efforts have been started to limit the location and duration of Shirasu catch.

? To strengthen resource management, we will encourage stakeholders to investigate the actual amount of resources and establish a management organization.

Regular risk assessment

● Establishing a sustainable procurement promotion organization

? In 2014, the Fisheries Assessment Committee, which conducts regular risk assessments for the sustainable use of fishery products, and the Marine Products Sustainable Use Promotion Committee, which examines action guidelines and specific responses. Was established.

? Evaluate the impact and scale of impacts on laws and resources, the environment, and identify the priority of initiatives.

-We will continue to improve the level of efforts by considering from the perspective of feasibility based on the input of external stakeholders such as experts.
