UN Global Compact

Aeon is the first Japanese retailer to announce participation in the UN Global Compact, which a set of 10 universal principles on human rights, labor, environment, anti-corruption, advocated on September 1, 2004. We are taking on various challenges in order to become a globally-recognized business group based on the concept of "Global 10".

For the foundation of these reforms, there are Aeon's unchanging principles of pursuing peace, respecting humanity, and contributing to local communities, always with the customers point of view as its core. As a business aiming for world-class standards, we promote business operations based on a balance of three aspects, financial, environmental, and social. Our strong resolve to become a business that is trusted by society is being reiterated both inside and outside Japan.

Aeon aims to develop a more sustainable society, incorporating the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact in our business activities, and rolling out initiatives on a global scale.

The 10 Principles of the UN Global Compact

The Global Compact supports internationally-recognized criteria for human rights, labor standards, and the environment within the bounds of the influence of a company, and requests that these are put into practice to each company. The aim of this initiative is for corporations to respect these criteria in the course of doing business and put them into practice in order to actively bring about change in the world. The principles are as follows. (The anti-corruption principle was added in June 2004, making a current total of 10 principles.)
